Jô (born João Alves de Assis Silva on March 20, 1987 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian football striker, playing for CSKA Moscow.
Corinthians
Jô played for Brazilian side Corinthians during the years of 2003-2005. He made 85 appearances scoring 13 goals. He became a fan favourite, but was later transferred to Russian outfit CSKA Moscow in 2005.
CSKA Moscow
Jô has proven to be a skillful, strong and pacey striker and proceeded to score 14 goals in his first 18 appearances for the Russian club, securing his status as a fan-favourite. He also impressed in the UEFA Champions League scoring two goals in the matches against Inter Milan. In the months between April and July of 2008 he was rumoured to be a target of Manchester City, AC Milan and Everton. He had been a target of Manchester City since the previous winter Transfer window of the 2007-2008 season when Manchester City were managed by Sven Goran Erickson who later departed from the club to become the Mexico national side manager. But the newly appointed Mark Hughes continued the interest in Jô.
Manchester City
Jô will join Manchester City for a club record of £19,000,000 after being awarded a work permit. However, he is yet to finalise personal terms and pass a medical with the Manchester club. Once the deal is completed, he will join up with his new Manchester City teammates and manager Mark Hughes at a German training camp later next week, reuniting with international team mate Elano and linking up with compatriot Geovanni.
International career
Jô received his first call-up to the Seleção in May 2007 and was in the squad to play against England last year but did not play but then made his international debut in friendly against Turkey, in June 2007. Due to a reported training ground bust up with Brazil manager Dunga, Jo has been continually overlooked in squad selections and is said to have accepted that as long as Dunga remains in charge, he is very unlikely to be capped and represent his country again.
