Älichan Angsaryuly Qaranejew ( Kazakh Әлихан Аңсарыұлы Қаранеев , Russian Алихан Ансарыевич Каранеев Alikhan Ansaryjewitsch Karanejew , *  26. July 1990 in Qulan , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh billiard players from Almaty , in the billiard variant Russian billiards compete. He was world champion twice - in 2008 in the combined pyramid and in 2016 in the free pyramid . He is the only Kazakh to have won a world title in two disciplines of Russian billiards. In addition, he won the Asian Cup twice (2008, 2012) and the Kremlin Cup once ( 2010 ).

Life

Älichan Qaranejew was born in 1990 as the older of two children in Qulan in the Shambyl region. Two years later the family moved to Almaty . His father Angsary Qaraneev played billiards successfully himself and has been president of the Kazakh Billiards Association since 1999. His younger brother Ablaichan Qaraneev also plays billiards.

Älichan Qaranejew graduated from a linguistic high school in 2008 and has been studying at the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism since then.

Career

1990–2006: beginnings and first successes

Älichan Qaraneev began playing billiards as a child . His father regularly took him to the billiards hall and played against him there. He was trained by the future world champion Kanybek Sagyndykow , who lived in the family house for a few months after moving from Bishkek to Kazakhstan in the spring of 2000.

In May 2003, Qaraneev took part in a world championship for the first time in Saint Petersburg . After a 3: 4 opening defeat against Yuri Lobatsch , he lost his second game 2: 4 against Rifat Sadrijew and was eliminated in the preliminary round. A year later he made it to the round of 16. After defeating Juri Rautiainen and Iwa Artschwadse , he had to admit defeat 1: 5 to last year's third Vladimir Petuschkow in the round of 16 .

In early 2005 he reached the round of 16 at the European Championships . In the same year he became the Kazakh master for the first time . At the end of the year, the World Cup was held in his hometown of Almaty . Again Qaranejew was eliminated in the round of 16, he lost just 4: 5 against defending champion Kanybek Sagyndykow. In July 2006 Qaranejew was a 6: 4 final victory against his compatriot Dmitri Kirillow Junior European Champion . A few days later he came in his fourth participation in the Asian Cup for the first time beyond the preliminary round, but in the round of 16 he lost to Dmitri Bajew . In the same year he managed to defend his title at the national championship. At the Russian Defense Minister's Cup he reached the round of 32. At the 2006 World Cup , he failed for the third time in a row in the round of 16, this time to Eduard Galijanz (3: 5).

2007–2009: First world title

In early 2007 formed Qaranejew together with Kanybek Sagyndykow and Irina Tjan the Kazakh national team, by a 3: 1 victory in the final against Russia team world champion was. In February 2008, Qaraneev was surprisingly world champion in the combined pyramid . At the World Cup in Almaty, he initially lost his opening game against last year's finalist Kanybek Sagynbajew . He then moved into the final with six wins in a row, including against Andrei Larionow, Arnal Ormokeev , Paata Chmaladze and Emil Mudarissow , in which he prevailed 6-0 against former world champion Jaroslaw Wynokur . At 17 years and 7 months he was the youngest world championship winner in this discipline, and he held the record until 2011. A few weeks later he became team vice-world champion together with Anel Bekbosunowa and Kanybek Sagyndykow. In May 2008 he won the Rossiskoi Gaseti Cup in the final against Artyom Sotov . In August he moved into the final of the Asian Cup for the first time, in which he turned a 3: 6 deficit against Oleksandr Palamar to a 7: 6 victory. In November 2008 he achieved his best result to date at the Free Pyramid World Cup when he defeated Jaroslaw Wynokur and Alexei Kostjuk and was only eliminated in the quarter-finals against Jewhen Palamar (3: 6).

At the beginning of 2009 Qaranejew moved into the final again at the Combined Pyramid World Cup . Against his compatriot Aues Jeljubajew he led 3: 1 and 5: 4, but in the end the defending champion had to admit defeat in the decisive eleventh game. In June he reached the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, in which he also lost to Aues Jeljubajew (3: 5). At the Kremlin Cup in October 2009 he moved into the round of the last 8 for the first time, in which he lost 3: 4 to Dmitri Bajew. At the Free Pyramid World Cup in 2009 , he was eliminated in the sixteenth finals against Andrej Hluschanin ( 5-6 ).

2010–2014: Kremlin Cup victory, time out and return

At the Combined Pyramid World Cup 2010 Qaranejew was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual finalist Kanybek Sagynbajew (3: 5). At the Asian Cup he just missed the last sixteen, he lost the decisive preliminary round match 3: 5 against Jauhen Kurta . In July 2010 he won the invitation tournament Billard Stars in Astana with a 9: 7 final victory against the former world champion Oleksandr Palamar . In October 2010, he won the Kremlin Cup after defeating Vidjai Drangoi 5-2 in the final. A few days later he reached the last sixteen at the Free Pyramid World Cup , in which he lost 4-6 to former world champion Yuri Pashchinsky . In the following two years Qaraneev only took part in a few international tournaments and none outside of his hometown of Almaty. At the beginning of 2011 he reached the round of 16 at the Combined Pyramid World Cup , where he was eliminated by Dmitri Bajew (2: 5). At the 2011 Asian Cup he lost to his compatriot Dauren Urynbajew ( 5-6 ) in the quarter-finals . A year later he was Asian champion for the second time, he prevailed in the final 7-2 against the Ukrainian Jaroslaw Tarnowezkyj .

After he had not played at World Championships for almost two years, three World Cup participations followed in 2013. After a close first round defeat against Aleh Retschyz (5: 6) in the combined pyramid , he made it into the quarter-finals for the first time in the dynamic pyramid , in which he lost 4-6 to Sergei Tusow . Another first round defeat followed in the Free Pyramid , this time against Dastan Lepschakow (4: 7). In the same year he reached the round of 16 at the Kremlin Cup and seventeenth place at the St. Petersburg Open. After a ninth place in the first tournament of the Prince Open 2014, Qaranejew reached the round of 32 at the Combined Pyramid World Cup and the round of 16 at the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup 2014 , in which he lost 4-6 to Alexander Chepikov . In November 2014 he moved into the final of the Kremlin Cup for the second time , in which, however, he had to admit defeat to the Russian Vladislav Osminin 3: 5.

Since 2015: Second world title

At the Combined Pyramid World Cup in February 2015, Qaranejew was eliminated again in the round of 32, this time against Maxim Pan (2: 5). A few weeks later he was the first Kazakh champion in the dynamic pyramid in the final against Yevgeny Smirnov (7-2) . At the European Championship 2015 he was eliminated in the round of 32 and at the Asian Championship in the round of 16. In October he reached the round of 16 at the Dynamic Pyramid World Cup , in which he lost 3: 7 to Pavlo Radionov . A little later he reached the final of the Kremlin Cup for the second time in a row and just lost to Pavlo Radionov (5-6). At the Free Pyramid World Cup , he reached his second quarter-finals in 2015 after 2008 and had to admit defeat to Russian Andrei Freise (5-7).

After Qaranejew was eliminated at the Combined Pyramid World Cup in 2016 with an opening defeat against Zuxriddin Hoshimov (2: 6), he reached the semi-finals in the Dynamic Pyramid for the first time and lost 5: 7 to Sergei Tusow. At the end of the year he also made it past the quarter-finals for the first time at the Free Pyramid World Cup in Kazan . After defeating the defending champion Wladislaw Osminin (7-1) and Sergei Kryschanowski , Jaroslaw Tarnowezkyj and Nikita Liwada , he finally moved into the final. In the final against the Ukrainian Artur Piwtschenko Qaranejew sat 7: 6 and became the second Kazakhs after Kanybek Sagyndykow world champion in this discipline. After his victory in the Combined Pyramid in 2008, he is the only Kazakh to have won a world championship title in two disciplines of Russian billiards.

At the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in September 2017, Russian billiards was part of the sports program for the first time and Qaranejew took part in two of the three competitions. In the Dynamic Pyramid he defeated Kanybek Sagynbajew (5: 2) and Serdar Myratberdijew (5: 3) before he was eliminated in the semifinals against the later gold medalist Annamämmet Annamämmedow (2: 5) and thus won the bronze medal. In the subsequent combined pyramid competition , however, he had to admit defeat to Kyrgyz Ysat Ratbekow 2: 5 in the first round .

In April 2018, Qaraneev moved into the semi-finals of the Dynamic Pyramid World Championships in Almaty for the second time in a row, in which he lost 6-1 to the eventual world champion Dmytro Biloserow . In August 2019, Qaraneev had to admit defeat to Ukrainian Mykyta Adamez in the round of 32 at the Free Pyramid World Cup , in which he last participated in his 2016 World Cup victory . A little later , after winning against 2017 winner Aleksandr Sidorov , he reached the round of 16 at the Kremlin Cup 2019 , where he lost to Dastan Lepschakow .

Pool

At first Qaraneev also played pool . In 2004 he became the Kazakh champion in the 9-ball discipline . Two years later he repeated this success. In addition, he won the championship title at the national junior championship in 9-ball in 2007 and 2009.
