Older Dalberger Hof
The Older Dalberger Hof at Ballplatz in Mainz was the Mainz seat of the Barons von Dalberg until they moved to the Younger Dalberger Hof in 1718.
The predecessor of today's building was the courtyard "Zum Roten Haus". This has been in the possession of the Counts of Eppstein-Königstein since 1463 and has been known as the Königsteiner Hof since then . The late Gothic residential tower in which the former chapel is located has been preserved to this day .
Since 1597 the property was owned by the Barons von Dalberg and has been named after them ever since. Today's Renaissance building was built between 1609 and 1614, the corner bay of which is typical of many Mainz buildings of that time. In 1710 the baroque main portal was added, the staircase and the rear terrace garden were installed a short time later. The English Fräulein took over the property in 1846 together with the neighboring Fechenbacher Hof and founded the only girls' school in Mainz still in existence today, the Maria Ward School .
