Equatorial plane

The equatorial plane of a planet is the level which the equatorial contains. The axis of rotation of a planet is perpendicular to its equatorial plane.

In a figurative sense, this term is also used in biology . Here the equatorial plane, also called the equatorial plate or metaphase plate, denotes the imaginary "center" of the cell . In the metaphase , the chromosomes in mitosis and the tetrads in meiosis I collect on the equatorial plane.
