Çarshi Mosque

The Çarshi Mosque , Stone Mosque or Sultan Murad Mosque ( Albanian  Xhamia e Çarshisë , Xhamia e Gurit , Xhamia e Sulltan Muratit ) is an Ottoman-style mosque in the Kosovar capital Pristina . It is at the intersection of Agim Ramadani and Nazim Gafurri streets , at the entrance to the old town.

Building history

The Çarshi Mosque is one of the oldest Islamic sacred buildings in Kosovo. It was built in 1393 by Sultan Bayezid I , in memory of his father Sultan Murad I, who died at the Battle of the Blackbird Field , and of the triumph of the Ottoman troops over the Christian defenders.

The mosque has been under renovation since 2011.

Structure and equipment

The sacred building consists of the main building with the dome, the adjacent gallery and the minaret . The dome has a diameter of 10 meters. The entire construction is made of stone.

To the east of the mosque there is a green area with a fountain.
