Çubuk is a municipality in the province of Ankara , the area of which coincides with that of the İlçe (state administrative district) of the same name . The community belongs to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi) and forms one of its district communities.

Çubuk is located 39 km from the city center of Ankara in the Çubuk ( Çubuk Ovası ) plain named after him . The İlçe Çubuk is located on the northeast border of the Ankara Province to the Çankırı Province between the İlçe Kalecik in the east and Kızılcahamam and Kazan in the west. In the south it borders (from southeast to southwest) on the districts of Akyurt , Pursaklar and Keçiören . In the north, the foothills of the Köroğlu Dağları rise to altitudes between 1400 m to almost 2000 m.

Climatically, the area is a transition area between the dry steppe climate of Inner Anatolia and the humid forest climate of the Black Sea region. The amount of precipitation is higher than in Ankara to the south.

The plain through which the Çubuk Çayı flows and irrigates offers fertile soils. Two dams ( Çubuk-1 and Çubuk-2 ) were built on the course of the river to supply Ankara with drinking water . Further to the west, another drinking water dam , the Kavşakkaya dam , was completed on Ova Çayı in 2007 .

The economy of the district is based on agriculture, with the cultivation of sour cherries being particularly important. The district is currently developing more and more into an industrial area, even if the residents of the central town are mostly commuters to Akyurt or Ankara. Ankara-Esenboğa Airport is located on the border with the neighboring Akyurt district .

Karagöl , a crater lake , is located 29 km from Çubuk near the border with Kızılcahamam in a scenic location .

history

Çubuk looks back on a longer history both as a settlement and as an administrative unit. After the Battle of Mantzikert in 1071, the Çubuk plain developed into a major settlement for the immigrating Turkish tribes. In the Seljuk period, the settlement of Balıkhisar, which today belongs to the Akyurt district, formed the local administrative center. A little more than 300 years later, in 1402 the Çubuk plain was the scene of the Battle of Ankara , which plunged the newly formed Ottoman Empire into an existential crisis.

In a document from 1463, a village with the name Çubukbazarı is recorded on the site of today's district center . The area of today's İlçe Çubuk appears divided into two administrative units with the names Taallükatt-ı Çubuk İli and Taallükat-ı Binari İli . 1523 is the Sandschak Ankara imputed kaza Çubuk-i , so an Ottoman jurisdiction ( kaza ) mentioned by Çubuk. For 1530, 3,425 houses in 248 villages are mentioned for the Kaza Çubuk and 8,467 houses in 216 villages for 1571, from which it is concluded that the population was 17,125 and 42,335 respectively.

The desertification processes in Anatolia in the 17th and 18th centuries also made themselves felt in Çubuk. In the year 1844/1845 the Kaza Çubuk recorded 1,686 houses in 78 villages. In 1882 the community ( Belediye ) Çubuk was founded. In 1902 the Kaza of Çubukabad was incorporated into the Kaza of Ankara as Nahiye (forerunner of the Bucak ), but became independent again as Kaza in 1920 (the name was later Turkishised in İlçe). In 1990 Çubuk suffered territorial losses when the İlçe Akyurt was built.
