Since his debut in a game against Brazil (2: 3) on December 16, 1997 in the context of the Confederations Cup , he completed 57 internationals for the Mexican selection . After he was only substitute keeper behind Jorge Campos in France in 1998 , he played all games for his home country in full in 2002 in Japan / South Korea. After the 2002 World Cup, however, he was ousted by Oswaldo Sánchez , who also played all the games in the Confederations Cup in Germany in 2005 . In the opening game (1: 1) of the 2010 World Cup against host South Africa , Pérez was in the starting line-up of the Mexican selection. Shortly before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Oscar Pérez was surprisingly preferred to the regular number one Guillermo Ochoa .

Although Pérez is only 1.72 m tall, he shone, especially during qualifying for the 2002 World Cup , with exemplary control of the penalty area and good positional play.
