The Ötscherschutzhaus is a hut of the Austrian Tourist Club that opened on May 29, 1887 .

location

The hut is located in the Ybbstal Alps , on the Ötscher in Lower Austria , at the mountain station of the Großer Ötscher double chair lift . Since the north-south long-distance hiking trail leads over the Riffelsattel , the hut is an important base for long-distance hikers.

Ascent

• From Lackenhof on foot to the hut in about 1½ hours or in the summer and winter seasons with the lift in 10 minutes.
• From Wienerbruck through the Ötschergräben and over the Riffelsattel ( 1283  m ) to the hut in about five hours.

summit

From the hut, the Ötscher ( 1893  m ), also known as the Großer Ötscher, can be reached in 1½ hours and the Kleine Ötscher ( 1552  m ) in one hour. A popular tour is the crossing of the Rauen Kamm , the Ötscher-Nordostgrat (easy climbing in difficulty level I ), which is usually done on the ascent and then leads over the Ötscher summit on the descent to the hut.
