Úhošť (German Burberg ) is a mountain in the Duppau Mountains (Doupovské hory) in the Czech Republic . Because of its steppe vegetation and the special geological structure, the mountain was declared a National Nature Reserve ( národní přírodní rezervace ) in 1974 .
Location and surroundings
The Úhošť rises on the northeast flank of the Duppau Mountains at the scenic transition to the North Bohemian Basin . To the north at the foot of the mountain on the Ohře ( Eger ) river lies the old royal town of Kadaň ( Kaaden ), to the west is the town of Klášterec ( Klösterle ). Located directly on the flanks of the mountain belonging to Kadaň small places Úhošťany ( Atschau ) Kadaňská Jeseň ( Gösen ) Zásada ( Sosau ) Pokutice ( Pokatitz ) and Brodce ( Prödlas ). The settlement Úhošť ( Burberg ) formerly located on the summit plateau has expired.

The Úhošť National Nature Reserve was proclaimed on October 4, 1974 on an area of 114.5 hectares. The near-natural forests on the mountain flanks as well as the forest steppes and dry grass communities on the mountain plateau are protected . The management of the CHKO Labské pískovce (Elbe Sandstone Landscape Protection Area ) based in Děčín is responsible for looking after the nature reserve .

The view from the top of Úhošť is very extensive. In the north and east, the view extends from the Ore Mountains over the North Bohemian Basin to the Bohemian Central Mountains . In the west, the ridges of the Duppau Mountains prevent a distant view.
Paths to the summit
The best starting point for a visit to the mountain is the town of Kadaň. From there a red marked hiking trail leads to the summit.
