history
The place was founded in 1380 according to German Sillein law and was then called Dewczdorf , in 1382 Dewsdorff , but in 1388 already Zsaskow . The village belonged to the estate of Arwa Castle and was administered by a hereditary bailiff. During the Kuruzenkrieg Žaškov suffered considerable damage. In 1715 there were 570 inhabitants, in 1778 already 902 inhabitants and finally in 1828 242 houses with 1,738 inhabitants. The main sources of income were agriculture, domestic crafts, linen weaving and rafting. During the first Czechoslovak Republic some of them also worked in the quarry in Párnica . The first school was mentioned in 1794, then in 1861 when the school building was opposite the Protestant church. The current school building was opened in September 1970.
For a long time the village could only be reached via a ford through the Orava before a wooden bridge was built in 1923, but it was at risk of flooding and was finally replaced by a reinforced concrete bridge in 1961.
