... But Alive was a German-speaking punk band that was founded in Hamburg in 1991 . In 1999 the band broke up.

Band history

After the release of the demo tape Krawehl! Tie! In 1991 the debut album was released two years later, entitled Für uns nicht , which was enthusiastically received in the punk scene. This was mainly due to the highly political lyrics by singer and guitarist Marcus Wiebusch , which, in addition to genre-typical topics such as right-wing radicalism (“Only idiots need leaders”), more sensitive matters such as rape (“Justice”), animal rights (“For us not”), but also dealt with criticism of the dogmas of the radical left (“gray”, “correct”).

The 1995 album "Nicht cynisch werden" contained, among other things, topics against double standards ("Affected eat up", "Natalie") or social and social pressure ("Nobody can do it alone").

The song "I want to knock the glasses off Ilona Christen's nose" got into controversy, which was released in 1997 first on the Split-7 "with the Canadian hardcore band I Spy and later on the third album" So far everything went well ... " appeared. The TV presenter Margarethe Schreinemakers is referred to there in a line of text as a “quota whore”, which brought the band the accusation of sexism .

At the end of 1999 the band announced their separation after more than 300 concerts. One has developed both musically and personally in different directions, it said in the declaration of dissolution on the homepage.

Marcus Wiebusch founded Kettcar a short time later with Frank Tirado-Rosales and merged his label BA-Records with Thees Uhlmann's label Hotel van Cleef into Grand Hotel van Cleef . In addition, Marcus Wiebusch played together with Torben Meißner in the Hamburg ska-punk band Rantanplan .

Three of the four album covers ( Not for us , Don't get cynical ?! , So far everything went well ... ) was made by Eric Drooker .
