content

The book first describes the emergence of the American men's rights movement in the early 1970s and, in the second part, deals with the genesis of the German equivalent, “a product of the creeping depoliticization of bourgeois men's movements that took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s as well as the factual disappearance of the autonomous male scene ”. In the third part, the author addresses important masculinist actors and networks. In his critical examination of positions related to men's rights he posed a. a. noted the tendency towards a psychological attitude that corresponds to rather than contradicts the 'syndrome of group-related enmity'.

reception

Kemper's monograph, together with Thomas Gesterkamp's Expertise Gender Struggle from Right (2010), is one of the first studies of the anti-feminist men's and father's rights movement in Germany. Elisabeth Klaus classifies the book as one of the first relevant works of “critical research on men”. According to Robert Claus, Kemper presented an "outline that depicts the central lines of development" of the German men's rights movement . It is “a first analysis of masculism ”, which “despite the low theoretical embedding” remains worth reading.
