The suffix -iatrie (from ancient Greek ἰατρικὴ (τέχνη) iatrike (techne) , German 'Heilkunst' from ἰατρός iatrοs , German 'doctor' ) appends names for medical specialties or areas.

There is always the corresponding specialist term, which is denoted by a word with the same root andiater as the ending, i.e. pediatric → pediatric etc.

The German word doctor also has the suffix -iater , the doctor is a derivation from the Middle Latin form archiater , which was derived from the Greek archiatrós and denotes the 'Erzarzt', a title used by ancient court doctors.
