.nrw is the top-level domain of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . It has been free to register for citizens and companies since March 2015.

In November 2011, the then North Rhine-Westphalian state government announced its support for the introduction of the .nrw domain. The official introduction took place on March 24, 2015.

The government platform open.nrw was the first website to use the new ending. Around 19,500 .nrw domains have now been registered.
