The 1st BC Düren is a badminton club from Düren . The first team rose from the district league to the second Bundesliga since 2002 , where they finished third in the 2009/10 season.
history
On the initiative of founding member Hellmuth Profitlich, thirteen people from Düren founded the badminton club on May 31, 1957, which started in the district class in the 1957/58 season. Despite difficult conditions, the first team reached the state league after three promotions in 1962 and stayed in the then second-highest German league for two years. In the next twelve seasons Düren established himself in the district class, which was upgraded in 1972. Since many experienced players left the club in the 1970s, the first team rose to the B-class (today's district league), which led to increased efforts to promote young talent. From 1978 onwards the Düren team got four promotions again, which led them to the state league in 1984 (renamed Oberliga in 1987). After four years in the association league from 1989 to 1993, the club returned to the league. In 2000, the badminton club had to disband its first team because of the loss of the best players and retire to the district league. In 2003, however, Düren rose again, and the series of successes that has continued to this day began. In 2005 a badminton school was set up to promote the next generation. In 2009 the first team reached the second Bundesliga and took third place. In 2017, the club declared that it would no longer compete in the Bundesliga. The newly formed 1st team is now playing in the district league.
