The 2S5 Giazint-S ( Russian Гиацинт-С ; German: Hyacinth ) is a self-propelled gun that was developed in the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s . It was developed in parallel with the 2A36 rifled cannon . The first series copies appeared in 1976.

description

The top of the 2S5 is unprotected and therefore vulnerable to enemy fire. Due to the long range, this disadvantage is not too serious. The tray with the drive is similar to that of the 2S3 . The L / 49 cannon is built open, with the crew only protected by a small shield. To ensure stability when shooting, there is a hydraulically operated earth spur at the rear . There is also a scraper blade on the bow.

The 152 mm cannon of the 2S5 with the GRAU index 2A37 has a slot muzzle brake, a carousel magazine (a total of 60 rounds) and a mechanical loader. It reaches a firing range of 28 km or 40 km with extended range ammunition ( English rocket-assisted projectile (RAP)) and a muzzle velocity of 800 m / s. The projectiles are aerodynamically shaped and must be loaded separately from the propellant charge cartridge.
