- October 23 : The six year old Valentinian III. becomes Western Roman Emperor under the reign of his mother Galla Placidia . With the help of the military leader Aspar , he was able to defeat his opponent Johannes in a short campaign; John is captured and executed.
- The general Flavius Aëtius arrives with an auxiliary force of 60,000 Huns in northern Italy, which were actually intended to support Johannes; However, he was killed a few days earlier, so that Aetius and his army made himself available to the new rulers.
