The 53W53 (also known as Tower Verre and its address at 53 West 53rd Street ) is a super- skyscraper under construction in New York City , Manhattan . The pointed building planned by Jean Nouvel is 320 meters high and has 82 floors. This makes it slightly higher than the Chrysler Building (as of 2019 New York's seventh-tallest building at 319 meters). Construction of the building was approved in autumn 2009. Originally the building was supposed to be 381 meters high, the same height as the Empire State Building . At the beginning of January 2013, DOB ( Department of Buildings - NYC) documents were submitted that enable the tower to be built immediately. On October 29, 2013 it was announced that funding for the tower has been secured. Construction of the tower began in February 2015 and the final height was reached in August 2018.
