- Oswald of Northumbria , who lived in exile in Scotland, wins the battle of Heavenfield over Cadwallon ap Cadfan of Gwynedd . Thereupon Oswald can reunite the divided Northumbria under his now again Christian rule.
Byzantine Empire / Islamic Expansion / Persian Empire
- February 4th : The Battle of Dathin between the Islamic Caliphate and the Christian allies of the Eastern Roman Empire ends with a victory for the Arabs. It is a minor battle, which nonetheless has a large echo in contemporary literature. The battle was preceded by an Arab raid on the outskirts of Gaza .
- August 23 : After the death of Abu Bakr is Umar ibn al-Khattab the second caliph of the Muslims elected. In the summer he succeeds in his first major victory over the Byzantine troops at Ajnadain, southwest of Jerusalem . The territory of the Ghassanids and Palmyra fall into Arab hands . In September, General Chālid ibn al-Walīd stands before Damascus .
- Autumn: The Battle of the Bridge , the first major skirmish between the Muslim Arabs and the Persian Sassanids as part of the Islamic expansion , ends with a victory for the Persians. It is the only major defeat the Arabs suffer in the early expansion. The Persian general Rostam Farrochzād cannot take advantage of the victory, however, as he has to move to Ctesiphon , where a nobility revolt has started at the court. The Arabs can then regroup.

- Beginning of wars of several years between Tibet and the Chinese Empire .

- The “ divan ”, the main role of the Muslim-Arab army, is written in Medina . It regulates the distribution of the spoils of war from the Byzantine Empire. Later he became the epitome of the entire Arab financial system.
