Anglo-Saxon kingdoms
- Cenwulf , King of Mercia , conquered Kent , whose King Eadberht III. Præn and appoints his own brother Cuthred as sub-king; Kent is reintegrated into Mercia after two years of independence.
- Sigered becomes the new King of Essex . His predecessor Sigeric I went on a pilgrimage to Rome.
Central Europe
- The Abodrites allied with the Franks defeat the Saxons in the battle on the Sventana field near Bornhöved . This broke the resistance against Charlemagne's Frankish empire in northern Albingia. The Franks deported a significant number of Saxons to the south and left large parts of northern Albingia to the Abodrites. Charlemagne hopes that this settlement will protect the northern Franconian border against the Danes.
Iberian Peninsula
King Alfonso II of Asturias defeats the Umayyads near Lugo and conquers Lisbon from the Emirate of Córdoba .
Moors and Franks fight for supremacy in the Balearic Islands , which remained Moorish until 1228 .
