The ABB Technikerschule in Baden and now in Sursee is a higher technical school for technology, IT, business and management.
history
In 1957, Brown, Boveri & Cie. (BBC) has its own design school to meet its skilled labor needs. The training was part-time and comprised 1,000 lessons spread over two and a half years. Shortly after it was founded, the design school moved to the Martinsberg community center .
In 1971 the training concept was redesigned and the school was called the BBC Technical School from then on. This made it one of the first technical schools in German-speaking Switzerland. The training lasted three years. The technical school opened in 1972 to non-BBC employees.
In 1973 the school and its degrees were recognized by the Canton of Aargau . In 1983 the ABB technical school was also recognized by the federal government, and from then on the graduates were allowed to call themselves technicians TS . The school became independent in 1992 and has been supported by a sponsoring association ever since. The first postgraduate course began in 2002.
The ABB Technical School has been located at Fabrikstrasse 1 (Building 1) and Wiesenstrasse 26 (Building 2) since 1994. The official address is: ABB Technikerschule, Wiesenstrasse 26, 5400 Baden
Training concept
The focus of the ABB technical school is on practice-oriented training and further education in higher vocational training. With her courses she would like to support her students in lifelong learning. The courses are aimed at adults who want to complete part-time training. The quality of training is ensured by the federal recognition and certification according to ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 29990: 2010 and IQNet.
The graduate technician courses comprise six semesters and at least 3600 hours of study. The postgraduate courses last two semesters and are attended part-time.
The lessons consist of face-to-face lessons, independent learning, laboratory and practical exercises, excursions, term papers and theses.

The ABB Technikerschule is organized as a non-profit association. It is currently owned by 70 companies that make up the General Assembly. This votes on the composition of the school council and the school management at general meetings. The school board takes on the function of the board of directors. It specifies the direction of the club and the school. The school management consists of the Rector and the Vice Rector and has the task of implementing the given strategy. However, the school is not only accessible to employees of the companies involved; the courses are open to everyone. The ABB Technikerschule cooperates with numerous associations, educational organizations and other educational institutes in Switzerland.
