ABC-Paramount was the music label of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC).

history

ABC-Paramount was founded in New York in 1955 as a subsidiary of ABC and covered a wide range of music from pop to jazz and rhythm and blues to voice recordings.

In 1959 the labels Audition Records , Command Performance , Colortone , Grand Award and Waldorf Music Hall were bought. With the exception of Command Performance, they were soon disbanded. At the beginning of the 1960s, a special jazz label with Impulse Records was founded , followed by a blues label with Bluesway as a subsidiary in 1966 .

Because of its worldwide distribution channels, smaller labels such as Anchor , Chancellor , Fargo , Sire and Wren Records used ABC-Paramount as distribution partners.

The label's best-known artists included Paul Anka , The Poni-Tails , Lloyd Price , Ray Charles , Cliff Richard , Fats Domino and BB King .

In 1966 the label was renamed ABC Records .
