The Danish handball club AG Copenhagen was created in 2010 through the merger of the handball clubs FCK Håndbold and AG Håndbold. AG Håndbold was founded in 2000. In 2012 the main funder was lost, so the players switched to KIF Kolding København .

Jesper Nielsen's exit and bankruptcy

At the beginning of July 2012 the founder and owner of the association, Jesper Nielsen, announced his departure. As a reason, he gave the constant negative headlines in a certain newspaper about himself and the associated burden on his family. With that AG Copenhagen lost an important source of money.

The club tried in vain to find a new owner. On July 30, 2012, Søren Colding resigned as Managing Director. On the same day, Nielsen's sister Annette Nielsen was appointed his successor. On July 31, 2012, the association filed for bankruptcy with the competent court, Sø og Handelsretten. All players and employees were released with immediate effect.

In August 2012, the players were accepted by the newly formed KIF Kolding København .

Champions League 2011/12

In the group stage, Copenhagen took second place behind THW Kiel . After successes over IK Sävehof and FC Barcelona , they reached the Final Four tournament in Cologne. There they lost to BM Atlético de Madrid in the semifinals with 23:25. With a 26:21 victory in the “small final” over the Füchse Berlin , Copenhagen reached third place in the final ranking of the 2011/12 Champions League .

The club caused a novelty and international sensation in the handball world by starting in its 2010/11 debut season in sleeveless jerseys. Since the jerseys from the Danish sporting goods manufacturer Hummel did not comply with the regulations of the European handball association EHF in this form , the club had to compete in jerseys with sleeves at least at international games. One reason for this is that the respective logo of the international club competition has to be affixed to the sleeves.
