The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) is a regional sub-organization of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) founded in 1984 , the Southeast Asian states organized in ASEAN with headquarters in Malaysia. Currently members are Brunei , Indonesia , Cambodia , Laos , Malaysia , Myanmar , East Timor , the Philippines , Singapore , Thailand , Vietnam and most recently Australia .

The association was founded on January 31, 1984 by the five founding members Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines to create a cup competition for club teams, which was soon abandoned. It wasn't until 1996 when the Tiger Cup, now known as the ASEAN Football Championship , was first played, a competition for national teams that is held every two years.

  1. The first Tiger Cup was held in Singapore in 1996 with the six founding members. The winner of the competition was the team of Thailand.
  2. The second Tiger Cup took place in Vietnam in 1998. The winner of this competition was the team from Singapore.
  3. The third Tiger Cup took place in Thailand in 2000. The winners were the Thailand team after a 4-1 victory over Indonesia.
  4. The fourth Tiger Cup took place in 2002 in Singapore and Indonesia. The winners were Thailand's team after a 6-2 victory over Indonesia.
  5. The fifth Tiger Cup took place in Vietnam in 2004. The winner was the team of Singapore.
  6. As of 2006, the Tiger Cup was replaced by the ASEAN Football Championship. These first took place in Singapore and Thailand. The Singapore team won after two games against Thailand, which ended 1: 1 and 2: 1.

The AFF also hosts the Dunhill Cup, a competition that takes place every two years. It was held for the first time in 1997 in Kuala Lumpur. The second edition was in 1999 in Ho Chih Minh City. In this competition, three AFF member teams play against teams from other East Asian countries. The AFF governing body meets every three months.

When it was first held in 1996, all current members took part in the competition with the exception of East Timor, which only joined in 2004 after Indonesia gained independence.

In addition, the AFF organizes a trophy for the winners of the championships of its members, as well as regional championships for women, as well as youth and junior national teams.
