The Association Sportive Saint-Quentin Football Féminin , usually called AS Saint-Quentin for short , is a women's football club from the Picardy city ​​of Saint-Quentin . The club's players belonged to the top French league in the late 1990s .

The association was founded in April 1980 under the name Les Mouettes ("The Seagulls"); this bird still adorns the club's coat of arms in the 21st century. At the same time, the founders set up a football school for children of both sexes, which is now only open to girls. The renaming to the current name followed soon after. The colors of the club are red and white; the league eleven play their home games at the Stade Philippe-Roth .

League affiliation and achievements

The "Seagulls" survived the first round of their first participation in the national championship (1982/83) , but were eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the following three years they also reached the nationwide first round without being able to qualify again for the next. After that, Saint-Quentin never got that far for about a decade. It was not until the mid-1990s that the ASSQ rose to the second division created in 1992 (Championnat National 1 B) , and in the 1997/98 season their women's team even played for the first time in the club's history in the "footballing upper house", which was then Championnat National 1 A was called. The climber found his way around it well and took a remarkable seventh place in the final ranking. Twelve months later, however, it was only enough for the penultimate place, which was synonymous with relegation. Until 2005, Saint-Quentin was still represented in Division 2 ; Since then, the women's league has only played in third class (in 2014/15 this is the regional division d'Honneur ).

In the national cup competition , the women of AS Saint-Quentin 2014/15 were in the main round in France for the sixth time; however, so far they have only managed to reach the second round in its first edition (2001/02) .
