The film describes the life of three people who belong to different generations but have one thing in common. George Perkins Marsh (1801–1882) was a politician and writer, Frederick H. Billings (1823–1890) was a lawyer and Laurence Rockefeller (1910–2004) was a businessman and philanthropist.
Common to all three is the conservative political leanings and their connection to the small town of Woodstock, Vermont , the birthplace of George Perkins Marsh. The three men bought land to teach their followers to live in harmony with nature. These activities led to the creation of the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park.
