A Time for Burning is an American documentary from 1966 .

action

Reverend William Youngdahl is the new pastor of the Augustana Lutheran Congregation, Omaha . His attempts to improve relations between his white middle class church and neighboring black churches have met resistance. Senator Ernie Chambers predicts whites indifference and black suspicion, frustrating Youngdahl. Even so, he makes a number of informal visits to the communities.

He finds support in the lawyer Ted Backstrom, the chairman of the church welfare committee. The parishioner Ray Christensen, however, fears that the integration of blacks could divide the church. The Zimmerman couple, church school teachers, organize visits to the Presbyterian Memorial Church of Kalvin. The black youth respond with visits on their part, which leads to controversy in the community.

During the visit of the couple from the Lutheran Hope Church, Youngdahl is informed that his predecessors, who advocated the integration of blacks, were forced to resign. The declining church attendance leads Youngdahl to resign.
