Abdul Rauf al-Kasm

Abdul Rauf al-Kasm ( Arabic عبد الرؤوف الكسم, DMG ʿAbd ar-Raʾūf al-Kasm , * 1932) is a Syrian architect and professor of architecture at Damascus University . He is a member of the Ba'ath Party and its National Progress Front and was Prime Minister under President Hafiz al-Assad from January 9, 1980 to November 1, 1987 . After leaving office, he served as head of the Ba'ath Party's National Security Bureau in Syria .

Abdul Rauf al-Kasm comes from a clerical family from Damascus who held high positions in the Sunni clergy during the mandate . Al-Kasm himself received his PhD in architecture and urban planning from the University of Geneva . From 1979 to 1980, Al-Kasm served as governor of the capital.
