Abida Parveen

Abida Parveen (born February 20, 1954 in Larkana ) is a Pakistani singer .

Parveen's father, the singer Ghulam Haider , encouraged her musical talent at an early age and enabled her to train with Salamat Ali Khan , a representative of the Sham Chaurasia Gharana . Her breakthrough came with a break on Radio Pakistan ; the broadcaster offered her a permanent contract after the success. She soon married Ghulam Hassan Sheikh , a producer on the station who became her manager. She had her first television appearance in 1982 in Sultana Siddiqui's program Awaz-o-Andaz . In 1989 the BBC broadcast their appearance at the Wembley Conference Center .

She sings in the styles Ghazel , Kafi, Qawwali , Sufi rock, Thumri and classical Indian music. She was called the "Queen of Sufi Music ". She has worked in cinema and television productions such as Aandhi Chali to Naqsh-e-Kaf-Pe Nahi Mila , Yar Ko Humne , Jab Se Tune Mujhe and Tere Ishq Nachaya and as a juror in Pakistani and Indian music shows such as Pakistan Idol , Star Voice of India , Chotte Ustaad and Sur Kshetra with. She was an ambassador for peace at the SAARC and was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2005 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2013 for her services .
