Abietoideae is a subfamily of the pine family (Pinaceae). Six genera are assigned to it. Representatives of this subfamily can be found in the northern hemisphere.

description

The species from the subfamily Abietoideae usually grow as evergreen trees , only the golden larch ( Pseudolarix amabilis ) is deciduous. The leaves are needle-like.

All representatives are single-sexed ( monoecious ). The seed cones have no umbo and the cone scales have a narrow base. The brown seeds have a moderately tight wing. Resin bubbles can also be found on the seeds.

Systematics

The subfamily Abietoideae was set up in 1826 by Robert Sweet in Sweet's Hortus Britannicus: or a catalog of plants cultivated in the gardens of Great Britain, arranged in natural orders ... , page 372 as "Subordo Abietinae", although he gave no precise description. This only took place in a reverence written by Sweet to the work Commentatio Botanica de Conifereis et Cycadeis published by Louis Claude Marie Richard in September to November 1826 , in which this subfamily is listed as the Abietineae section .

There are six recent genera in the subfamily Abietoideae, two of which are monotypical , i.e. consist of only one species.
