Abu Faraj al-Libi
Abu Faraj al-Libi ( Arabic أبو فرج الليبي, DMG Abū Faraǧ al-Lībī ) is a suspected member of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda and one of the highest-ranking members of the organization after Aiman az-Zawahiri .
Life
After Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's arrest in March 2003, al-Libi is said to have risen to the position of chief planner and military chief of the organization. He was one of the five most wanted terrorists in Pakistan , as it is suspected that he was the mastermind behind two failed attacks in 2003 on Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf . A reward of 260,000 euros was offered on his head in Pakistan, in addition to a US $ 5 million bounty from the USA .
According to information from Pakistani security circles, al-Libi was arrested on the first weekend in May 2005 in Mardan in the tribal area of North Waziristan , around 150 kilometers southwest of the capital Islamabad , along with five other al-Qaida members.
Whether the arrested Abu Faradsch al-Libi (also: Abou Faradj al-Libbi or al-Liby) actually belongs to the upper management level of al-Qaeda, or whether he has been confused with the actual number 3 of al-Qaida due to a similarity of name , has not yet been clarified.
