Accademia Fiorentina

The Accademia Fiorentina (also Accademia degli Umidi ) was a free association of poets founded in Florence in 1540 . It goes back to the initiative of Antonio Francesco Grazzini and Giovanni Mazzuoli .

In 1541, Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici proclaimed it as a permanent organization under his protection, which should contribute to the establishment of Tuscan culture. Pierfrancesco Giambullari was co-founder . The members of this academy commented and celebrated Dante and Petrarch. In 1783, by order of Grand Duke Peter Leopold, it was merged with the Accademia della Crusca and the Accademia degli Apatisti to form the Accademia Fiorentina Seconda.
