Ace Combat is a series of arcade-heavy video games from the Japanese software company Namco for various platforms from the military flight simulation or action game category .

The first part appeared in 1995 under the title Air Combat for the first Sony PlayStation and was so successful that several sequels, later also on the PlayStation 2 , appeared.

The games are characterized by the fact that the individual missions are interwoven through a continuous story. However, this feature has been removed from some parts of the European versions. In addition, some of the features of the corresponding Japanese or American NTSC versions such as the multilingual voice output have been removed from the European PAL versions for the PlayStation 2 (only English instead of additional Japanese voice output).

In October 2007 the successor to The Belkan War was released , which is available exclusively for the Xbox 360 under the title Ace Combat 6 - Fires of Liberation .

At the end of May 2014, Ace Combat Infinity was released as a free-to-play title exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 3 , which could be played until March 31, 2018. The game was downloaded from PlayStation Network and featured eight single player and multiple co-op multiplayer missions.

Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere

The PAL and US-NTSC versions of the game were heavily cut. While the game in the original Japanese version included two CDs and a rich story mode with multiple paths, the story was completely removed from the other variants and the game was pressed onto just one CD. Among those who know the series, the Japanese version of the game is one of the best ace combat titles par excellence. In addition to the game and the manual, there was also a small art book .
