Ackermann community

The Ackermann congregation is an association in the Catholic Church in Germany that is dedicated to reconciliation between Germans , Czechs and Slovaks . It is based in Munich .

structure

The community is basically divided into dioceses, with several dioceses in north-west, north-east and south-east Germany being grouped together:

history

The municipality was formed by the merger of members of the former Catholic societies and communities of displaced German from Czechoslovakia in January 1946. The choice of name was based on the late medieval seal The Ackermann from Bohemia of John of Tepl from the year 1400th

The founding personalities included the politician Hans Schütz (chairman from 1946 to 1970) and Father Paulus Sladek (clergyman from 1946 to 1980). After Hans Schütz, Josef Stingl was chairman until 1991. Adolf Ullmann was federal chairman of the Ackermann community from 2004 to 2010. Martin Kastler was unanimously elected as his successor at the Federal Assembly on March 14, 2010 in Nuremberg.

The association has had a branch in Prague since 1991 .

Goals and Activities

The association wants to make the Germans aware of Bohemia , Moravia , Silesia and Slovakia and build cross-border partnerships. He stands up for democracy and human rights and their protection regardless of ethnicity. The association publishes publications on German-Czech history and organizes encounters between Germans and Czechs. It provides financial help in the construction of destroyed or damaged churches, cemeteries and monuments and supports the members of the German minority living in the Czech Republic .

The youth association of the community is the Junge Aktion , founded in 1950 , which is represented in the BDKJ through Aktion West-Ost . In 2000, the student organization Hochschulring, founded in 1948 by the Ackermann community , which belonged to the Working Group of Catholic Student Associations (AGV) and the Association of Displaced German Students (VHDS), was also part of the Junge Aktion .

Many conventions and events of the community as well as the Junge Aktion take place in the Rohr monastery in Lower Bavaria .

Others

On the occasion of the anniversary “1000 years of the Archdiocese of Prague ” in 1973, the municipality of Munich published the well-known book by the medieval author Johannes von Tepl The Ackermann and Death as a special edition in the Insel-Bücherei (IB 198 / C).
