Adrianus Petrus Wilhelmus "Ad" Melkert (born February 12, 1956 in Gouda ) is a Dutch politician and civil servant. He is a member of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (PvdA) and was, among other things, labor minister and party leader.

When left-wing extremist Volkert van der Graaf killed right-wing populist Pim Fortuyn in the parking lot of the state broadcaster in Hilversum in the middle of the election campaign on May 6, 2002 , Melkert said: "The Netherlands has lost its innocence."

From July 2009 to October 1, 2011, Melkert was Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to lead the United Nations Support Mission in Iraq .
