Adamo Tadolini (born December 21, 1788 in Bologna , † February 16 or 23, 1868 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor .

Life

Tadolini attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna from 1808 to 1813 , directed by Giacomo De Maria (1762-1838). In 1813 he won the Curlandese Prize awarded by the Accademia with a terracotta relief . The relief depicts Venus handing Aeneas arms. In the same year Tadolini went to Rome with a four-year scholarship from the Accademia. There he made a plaster statue of Ajax cursing the gods . With this he won a prize advertised by Antonio Canova for young sculptors and then became an assistant in Canova's studio. He stayed there until 1822. In 1830 and 1858 he exhibited in London . In the former Atelier Canovas and Tadolini in Rome (Via del Babuino 150 AB), the Museo Atelier Canova Tadolini has been located since 2000 , in which busts made by them in marble and plaster as well as work objects are exhibited. The museum is operated by the Galleria Benucci. After Tadolini's death, his son Scipione Tadolini (1822-1892) took over the studio. His son Tito Tadolini (1828–1910) and the descendants of Scipiones, Giulio Tadolini (1849–1918) and Enrico Tadolini (1888–1967) were also sculptors.
