Adel bin Achmed al-Dschubeir (also Adel el-Dschubeir , Arabic عادل بن أحمد الجبير Adil b. Ahmad al-Jubair , DMG ʿĀdil b. Aḥmad al-Ǧubair ; * February 1, 1962 in Madschme near Riyadh ) is a Saudi Arabian politician and diplomat. Jubeir,who had previously served as Saudi ambassador to the United States , has been Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since April 29, 2015.

Life

Adel Dschubeir attended schools in Lebanon , Yemen , the United States and Germany . He graduated from the University of North Texas in Political Science in 1982 and in International Relations from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1984 .

Dschubeir joined the diplomatic service in 1987 at the age of 25 and initially worked for the then ambassador Prince Bandar ibn Sultan in Washington, DC Dschubeir is a Sunni Muslim and politically independent (parties are banned in the Wahhabi- ruled kingdom). On February 27, 2007, he was appointed Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United States. On Tuesday, October 11, 2011, US Attorney General Eric Holder announced to the press that two Iranian agents had planned a bomb attack using the Los Zetas drug cartel to kill Jubeir.

During his inaugural visit to Germany in August 2015 as the new Saudi Foreign Minister, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier also addressed the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia. He also asked Dschubeir to work for a “human solution” for the imprisoned blogger Raif Badawi , who was sentenced to 1000 lashes .

In addition to Arabic and English, Dschubeir also speaks German . He mostly shows himself in Western clothing instead of an Arabic look , is married and has three children.

Act

After the execution of the Shiite clergyman Nimr al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia on January 2, 2016 and the subsequent abrupt cooling of Iranian-Saudi Arabian relations , Jubeir announced the breakdown of diplomatic relations with Iran and ordered the short-term departure of all Iranians Diplomats.

After Canada demanded the release of blogger Raif Badawi and his sister, Saudi Arabia expelled the Canadian ambassador in August 2018 and froze trade relations, al Jubeir protested against interference in domestic affairs.

After the disappearance of journalist Khashoggi, al Jubeir spoke of an interrogation that had got out of hand.
