Adolf Green

Adolf Grün (born November 22, 1877 in Vienna , † March 29, 1947 in Basel ) was an Austrian chemist.

Grün studied chemistry at the Technical University of Vienna and at the University of Zurich with Alfred Werner . In 1900 he received his doctorate in Zurich and in 1907 he was a private lecturer at the University of Zurich. In 1912 he became chief chemist of the shift group in Aussig and from 1926 to 1931 he was in the management of the Grenzach von Hoffmann-La Roche chemical works .

He dealt with the chemistry of fats , in which he had a leading position. Among other things, he synthesized mixed acid glycerides , cellulose esters of higher fatty acids and fatty acids with terminal double bonds and developed sulfonation methods that were important for industry . He also dealt with waxes, paraffin oxidation and chemical auxiliaries for the textile industry as well as analytical processes.

In 1929 he received the Adolf von Baeyer Memorial Medal .

Together with his wife Emma, ​​geb. Trachsler (1884–1940) he was buried in the Hörnli cemetery in Riehen.
