Adolf Matthias Hildebrandt (born June 16, 1844 in Mieste , Altmark , Province of Saxony , † March 30, 1918 in Berlin ) was a German genealogist , heraldist and publicist .

He was the son of Adolf Bernhard Hildebrandt (1810– ??) from Mieste and Caroline Daubert (1812–1875) from Genthin . Hildebrandt designed coats of arms and bookplates - u. a. also for the publisher Carl Langenscheidt (1870–1952). He was the founder of the magazine Exlibris and the Wappenfibel - Handbuch der Heraldik . In addition, from 1870–71 and 1880–1918 he was the chief editor of the monthly German Herald and the quarterly publication for coat of arms, seal and family history . In 1880 he was appointed ducal professor of Saxony-Altenburg .

Hildebrandt was the author of numerous publications - mainly on heraldry. The heraldic work of Hildebrandt was u. a. with the honorary membership in the heraldic association "Zum Kleeblatt" founded in 1888 in Hanover. The number of bookplates, family trees and coats of arms designed or drawn by him is extremely large. Typical of Hildebrandt's heraldry is the use of plant motifs, which he himself took from the coat of arms and redesigned in Gothic style . Another characteristic is the recurring shape of the helmets, which are named after him by experts "Hildebrand helmets".
