Agentin mit Herz (Original title: Scarecrow and Mrs. King ) is an American television series that was produced from 1983 to 1987.

action

In the pilot of the series, Amanda King , a divorced housewife and mother of two sons, is recruited as a freelancer for the US secret service .

There she works as an agent at the side of Lee Stetson , camouflage name "Scarecrow" (English for scarecrow ), whom she married at the end of the fourth and final season. Although only employed as an office worker, she is repeatedly involved in undercover operations. Initially unintentionally, then with the approval of their superiors, later - after relevant training - also quite officially.

The secret service

Neither the name nor the code of the secret service are ever mentioned in the series. This is apparently active at home as well as abroad, in the reconnaissance as well as personal protection or secret warfare. Only a certain rivalry with the 'colleagues' from the CIA is hinted at several times.

Outwardly, the secret service operates as a film production ('International Federal Film'). Amanda also always tries to keep her agent activity a secret from her sons and her mother, who lives with her. She explains irregular working hours and sudden business trips with the imponderables of film production.

The temporal environment

The series reflects the America of the Reagan era as well as the espionage milieu of the Cold War . The action takes place in Washington, DC. The episode Mysterious Eyes shows a wedding photo of Kathleen Kennedy and William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington . In the dialogue between Amanda and Lee it is claimed that it was his parents who were killed. His mother, Lee said, was English.
