In Aham, a moated castle on the Vils was built as early as 900 to protect against the Hungarian invasions . The church village of Aham was first mentioned in a document around 1125 under the name Aheheim . This settlement name refers to a flowing body of water, Ahe , and means something like "home on the river". Ahaim Castle is occupied until at least 1579. Aham belonged to the Counts of Lerchenfeld . The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark , whose seat was Aham. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . In addition to Aham, the places Dreifaltigkeit, Eichmühle, Erling, Ernstgraben, Ferchenstauden, Fürst, Haarpoint, Högl, Kalteis, Lamprechtsöd, Nöham, Oberhausenthal, Oed, Rehpoint, Reithannerl, Schafhausen, Schweibing, Sichartsreit, Sommerauweber, Steinberg, Thalham, Thalmann, Unterhausenthal belonged , Wolfsgrub and Ziegelstadel to the community. At the same time a patrimonial court was established in Aham . In 1833 Maximilian Graf von Montgelas , the once powerful minister of King Max I , bought the former Hofmark, whose castle was owned by the family until 2009. Montgelas himself was buried in the crypt of Aham Castle after his death in 1838. The last remnants of the aristocracy were abolished in the revolution of 1848 .
