Ahmed Abu Jummaisa

Ahmed Abu Jummaisa († 1889 ) was an Islamic political leader in Sudan .

Ahmed Abu Jummaisa declared himself the new Mahdi in the course of the power struggles after the death of the leader of the Mahdists Muhammad Ahmad in 1885 . He fought against the progressive secularization of the Mahdists. He allied himself with the Fur-Sultan Abu Kairat. Muhammad Ahmad's successor Abdallahi ibn Muhammad sent an army to suppress the movement of Ahmed Abu Jummaisa. On February 22nd, 1889 there was a battle near El Fascher . Ahmed Abu Jummaisa, who had meanwhile suffered from smallpox , died before the decisive battle and could not inspire his followers. The uprising was therefore put down.
