Air Arabia ( Arabic العربية للطيران, DMG al-ʿArabiyya li-ṭ-ṭayarān ) is a low-cost airline from the United Arab Emirates based in Sharjah and based at Sharjah Airport .
history
Air Arabia was founded on February 3rd, 2003 by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed al-Qasimi , the Emir of the Emirate of Sharjah, as the first low-cost airline in the Middle East. The company is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization . For 2006, Air Arabia reported a turnover of 749.16 million AED .
On June 19, 2007 the company was listed as Air Arabia PJSC in the UAE.
In January 2015, Air Arabia took over 49% of Petra Airlines, the name was then changed to Air Arabia Jordan . Petra Airlines was interesting for Air Arabia because Jordan has an Open Skies agreement with the European Union . Air Arabia Jordan ceased flight operations at the beginning of April 2018.
For the 15th anniversary, a new brand identity was presented on October 28, 2018. The seagull at the tail of the aircraft has been made larger and is now red on a white background with gray dots behind the seagull (previously the seagull was white on a red background) and the lettering is no longer "airarabia.com" but "AirArabia". As of 2019, the company received Airbus A321 and had a total of 55 Airbus aircraft at its disposal. In December, the decision to renew the fleet was made against the Boeing 737 MAX and Embraer-E2, and thus in favor of the Airbus A320neo .
