Air Commodore
The Air Commodore ( Air Cdre ) is a rank in the Royal Air Force . It is also found in the air forces of other states whose rank system was influenced by the British system. There is this rank in the Indian Air Force , the Royal Australian Air Force , the Royal New Zealand Air Force , in the Pakistan Air Force and in the Koninklijke Luchtmacht .
The rank of an Air Commodore corresponds to a brigadier general of the land forces and is therefore the lowest general rank according to the German understanding.
In the British understanding, which derives the rank from the naval rank Commodore , the Air Commodore, however, is not yet an actual general rank. According to British tradition, the actual general ranks begin with the Air Vice-Marshal . In the Royal Air Force, the Air Marshal and the Air Chief Marshal rank above it .
