Al Kavelin (born March 3, 1903 in New York City , † January 1982 ) was an Italian- born, American big band leader and composer in the field of swing and popular music .

Al Kavelin was one of the leading Sweet Style band leaders of the 1930s. He graduated from the Royal Verdi Conservatory in Milan . After he u. a. Having worked with Jean Goldkette , he formed his first band in 1933, which performed at New York's Central Park Casino and whose appearances were broadcast on the radio. Later he also made recordings for Columbia Records , Bluebird and Decca . The most famous member of his orchestra was the later band leader Carmen Cavallaro ; his band singers were Vivian Blaine, Bill Darnell, Don Cornell and Virginia Gilerest.
Al Kavelin made guest appearances with his orchestras in the great ballrooms of the United States. a. in New York's Waldorf-Astoria , in Bilmore and Essex House , in Blackstone in Chicago, in Mark Hopkins in San Francisco, the Baker in Dallas and the Roovevelt in New Orleans. Kavelin composed a. a. the band's signature tunes, "Lover Has Gone" and later "I Give You My Word," which became popular on radio during the record strike in the early 1940s and became # 1 on the radio in the
Lucky Strike- sponsored Your Hit Parade . Eventually, Kavelin broke up the band in the late 1940s and settled in Los Angeles , where he started a travel agency.
