Alar Kivilo

Alar Kivilo (born February 17, 1953 in Montreal , Quebec ) is a Canadian cameraman .

Life

Alar Kivilo was born in Montreal as the son of Estonian war refugees who emigrated to Canada via Sweden during the Second World War . After Kivilo received his first camera at the age of 17, he decided against the wish of his father, an architect, to start a science degree and moved to Toronto in 1970 , where he studied film at York University from 1971 to 1972 . After graduating, he and a few fellow students founded Alliance Atlantis, their first company specializing in documentary films for television. By shooting commercials, music videos, short films and foreign documentaries, such as in Cuba (1976) and Greenland (1977), he then made his first feature film in 1982 with the television film 984: Prisoner of the Future , a science fiction drama to turn.

After several television films and a few nominations for the Gemini Award , the Canadian film award, Kivilo moved to Los Angeles , where he was able to shoot his first major feature film with Frequency in 2000 .

Kivilo lives with his wife and two daughters in both Los Angeles and Tallinn , Estonia, where he visits his family every year.
