Tour possibilities
The Albert-Heim-Hütte can be reached from Tiefenbach on Furkapassstrasse in 1.5 hours via a marked hiking trail. In winter, access from Realp takes three hours, as the Furkapassstrasse is closed. It is the starting point for numerous mountain tours both in summer and in winter.
In summer the hut serves as a base for hikes, e.g. B. the Nepali Highway to the Sidelen Hut . The Galenstock is a classic high-altitude tour . On the surrounding mountains, such as the Bielenhörner , the Gray Wall, the Winterstock or the Gletschhorn , you will find climbing tours of various types and levels of difficulty.
In winter, the Galenstock over the Tiefengletscher is a classic ski tour destination from the hut. The Kleine Bielenhorn is also climbed on skis. Furthermore, the hut is the base of the so-called Urner Haute Route which leads from Realp via Lochberg , Sustenhorn and Grassen to Engelberg .
history
The Albert-Heim-Hütte was inaugurated on September 22, 1918.
Numerous guests were present, including Albert Heim himself.
The location at the foot of the Tiefen glacier was selected based on a suggestion by Albert Heim. The total costs of the hut construction amounted to 28,300.95 SFr. The first building was designed for 18 beds.
In 1936 the hut was expanded to 40 beds for the first time. The next expansion to 80 beds followed in 1970 according to plans by Jakob Eschenmoser . In 2019 the hut was renovated and expanded. The number of beds was reduced to 64 due to increased needs.
