Albert C. Greene

Albert Collins Greene (* 15. April 1792 in East Greenwich , Rhode Iceland , †  8. January 1863 in Providence , Rhode Iceland) was an American politician of the Whig Party , of the State of Rhode Iceland in the Senate represented.

Life

After graduating from Kent Academy , a private school in his hometown of East Greenwich, Greene studied law , was inducted into the Bar in 1812 and began practicing as a lawyer in East Greenwich. He was a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives from 1815 , where he remained for ten years; he acted as its speaker between 1821 and 1825 . During this time he rose in the state militia to major general. From 1825 to 1843 he succeeded Dutee Jerauld Pearce as the state's Attorney General .

After serving in the Rhode Island Senate between 1843 and 1844, Greene was finally elected to the US Senate, which he entered on March 4, 1845. After six years in office, he was not re-run as a candidate, at which point his party, the Whigs, was in a state of dissolution. From 1851 to 1852 he was once again State Senator in Rhode Island, before he was again a member of the House of Representatives there in 1857. After that, Greene retired into private life.
