Albert Chaniel (born February 11, 1915 in Antibes , † 1982 ) was a French football player .

Career

Chaniel was 18 years old when he moved up to the squad of the French first division club FC Antibes in 1933 and thus made the leap into the professional league created a year earlier . The player, who was called up in defense as well as in defensive midfield , was hardly used at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible and did not make more than two contested games in his first year with the professionals. This was followed by a season completely without use and a season 1935/36, in the course of which he was twice on the field.

In the 1936/37 season he made the leap into the first team and was able to defend his regular place over the following years; In 1939 he had to accept the descent of his team after 79 first division games with two goals. In the same year, the Second World War began, whereby the regular game was stopped and one was limited to unofficial championships. Despite the war, Chaniel was able to continue the career and also the Antibes FC remained thanks to the special circumstances of the top division; nevertheless he moved to league and local rivals OGC Nice .

At least until 1942 he stayed with Nice. For the season 1943/44 he was in the squad of the ÉF Clermont-Auvergne , which consisted essentially of players from the Stade Clermont , since clubs were not allowed to compete in that year. When clubs were re-approved in 1944, Chaniel Clermont joined; when regular play was resumed in 1945, he returned to Antibes and played with the club for the first time in the second division. In 1946 he went to Nice for the second time, which was also second class; In 1947 he made it back to the top class when he signed with AS Cannes . In 1948 he ended his career in the first division, was then a regular player for a year at the second division club SC Toulon and decided in 1949 to end his career. Later he worked temporarily as a coach for a club from Grasse .
