Albert Doubt (born June 7, 1949 in Rüti ) is a former Swiss cyclist who was mainly active in cross-country cycling . He was the most successful cross-country rider in Switzerland in the 1970s and 1980s.

Athletic career

Albert Doubt, originally a car mechanic by profession , was a professional from 1973 to 1989. In 1976 he became the first Swiss world champion in the cyclo-cross race, a success that he was able to repeat four times in the following years.

Doubt also competed 16 times in the Tour de Suisse , making it the record holder for participation. He was able to classify himself 14 times. In 1975 he drove the Giro d''Italia and finished 88th overall, in 1981 the Tour de France , which he finished in 109th place.

In total, Zweifel won ten World Championship medals and over 300 victories. His strongest competitors in cyclo-cross sports were the Belgian brothers Roger and Erik De Vlaeminck .

Doubt suffered a serious accident at the 1976 Tour de Suisse : he fell after the Furka descent in Gletsch and covered the last 40 kilometers to the finish line covered in blood and was only then taken to the hospital in Brig . The diagnosis was: complicated skull fracture. Doubt himself can still remember neither the fall nor the journey that followed.

In August 2016, Zweifel was hit by a car and seriously injured while on a bike tour near Hamburg.

Professional

Until 2014 Albert Doubt initially operated a bicycle rental company on Mallorca with Max Hürzeler for around 30 years . He then returned to Switzerland.

Honors

Doubt was inducted into the UCI Hall of Fame in the cyclocross category.
